I've given up on CPU upgrades entirely. I am sitting at 8% for the year out of 42 flights - all 3 have been on RJs or Q400s with high fare classes.
I thought I had a decent chance recently for DEN-IAH 787 on an M fare when the C cabin had about a dozen open seats 24 hours out and I was #4 on the waitlist after check-in...but it quickly went to full about an hour from departure. I'm 100% certain I was TOD'd as I've been offered $89 upgrades on this route before.
