When travelling int'l, I always have at least a t-shirt, underwear and socks at my carry-on, )
I will often do this (and sometimes a shirt, too), to be able to change when taking a shower in the lounge during a connection. But it also helps when your checked bag does not make the connection, since it usually takes the airlines a day for it to catch up to you.
