I live in Menlo Park, home town to Rosewood Sand Hill. I've dined at Madera several times and booked spa services as well. I can't say I'm atwitter, here's why:
Many who stay at this hotel (not resort) are on expense accounts so they aren't paying their own freight. In fact it's not the sort of place one would go to on one's own. There is no there there.
The signature restaurant, Madera, doesn't measure up in my repeated experience. The site is a preferred "upscale" corporate choice for events which doesn't work out for the rest
The entire rationale for the existence of this Rosewood is to service the mostly local VC community and upscale high-end corporate whoohoo. I know it happens from time to time because of the high-end lustre of the Rosewood brand, but, geez, there is nothing much here unless one must stay in the area.
That said, it's better than any of the SF options unless you need to be up there.
It's also a better choice than the Four Seasons in East Palo Alto. Seriously, though, neither of these hotels serve for more than an abode for being in the valley and getting out and around. The Rosewood is more pleasant to be sure. But I surely wouldn't stay there unless I had to be in the area.
Another fan of the Village Pub which continues to be finest kind, infinitely preferable to the Rosewood Madera.
