The same happened to me on MMB yesterday, on the inbound leg of a LHR-JFK-LHR redemption booking for the end of this month. The outbound leg seat selection still works fine. Outbound is a 747, inbound is 777 but was a rebooking following a cancellation, if that makes any difference.
