I snap a photo of everything in Evernote. It only takes a minute...much easier than marking everything with coded notes in Sharpie pen ink, and stacking up shoeboxes all over the place. I keep a separate notebook within Evernote for MS activities: MS2014, MS 2105, etc.

I throw everything out after it's been photographed into Evernote.

I doubt/hope I'll never get audtied by the IRS. But where Evernote has really saved me in a real world scenario is when I've had a problem with one of my gift cards. It doesn't happen very often, but I'm pretty heavy with my MS, so I guess it's bound to happen once in a while.

In my case, one of my GCs wouldn't work. I logged online to whatever brand it was (Vanilla Visa?), and saw that there was a fraud hold put on it. I called in and was told by customer support that apparently someone in Georgia had tried to use the number or some such thing. Anyway, I was then told that, in order to receive a replacement card, they wanted me to fax in a copy of the purchase receipt, front and back of the gift card, the package it came in, dental records, and a DNA sample.

I really think their business model is to assume that in a large percentage of these cases, the customer will never be able to produce all the documentation.

Well...they about had a cow when I faxed it in 10 minutes later. Still didn't stop them from taking 2 weeks to send me the replacement, but at least I didn't lose any money.

Back before I was blacklisted from all the competing billpay type cards (AccountNow, PowerPay, GoBank, etc), I would occasionally have a problem with one of the load cards working properly (I'm looking at you, GreenDot, you nefarious huckster of a business). Having all documentation in Evernote easily allowed me to win the disputes. The good old days - I do NOT miss that constant battle of trying to figure out what would keep my "under the radar".
