Why not arrive 2 hours ahead? Both PDX and YVR airports are quite nice, by North American standards. Many FTers enjoy relaxing in the nicer airports out there, and these are two of them.

At YVR, you clear US customs and immigration in advance of departure and if you don't have Nexus or Global entry, this can add 30 minutes or more to your check-in processing time.
