This is my first time traveled on LH and i do like to share this experience to y'all. I am happy with their VDB offer, and i almost did that twice for the same flight, here's the story.

I supposedly was flying on this flight:

LH730 MUC/HKG
Economy class
8.11 depart at 22:15.

So before the gate opens, the gate manager using the PA system and ask for 1 volunteer who can give up their seat, and LH will offer 600EUR cash for the compensation. I didn't see anyone walk to the gate. But I think it is a good deal and i am really flexible with my travel plan, so I walked to him and ask for details.

What i need to do/be:
– Visa eligible for re-entry to the Germany boarder
– Single traveler, not in a group
– Give up my seat and take the next flight 24 Hours later

What's the offer:
– 600EUR voucher refundable by cash or for the future expense with LH group
– 1 night + 1 day room in Sheraton München Airport Hotel
– Hotel's Dinner, Breakfast and Lunch
– Coupons for dinning in airport restaurant
– Seat Upgrade based on availability

The voucher

So they immediately offload my luggage to stand-by area. All the Passengers on board and not a single seat left, so the gate closed. It's already 11pm after all the paperworks. So i head straightly to the hotel. The hotel is really nice and the quality of meals are hotel standard.


Had a green choice of lunch with the TV episode breaking bad in the hotel restaurant.

So the next day i head back to the airport after staying in the hotel for 18 hours.

The good news is according to the system they secured a PEY seat for me, and they said they will more then happy to offer me to business class if there’s seat available. The bad news is the flight is full today and they have a lot of people holding a ticket without seat assignment.

“Is the flight full again?”I said
“Yes, it’s the same as yesterday. but you wont give up your seat again, would you?” the agent said
“Are you guys offering the same as yesterday?”i said
“Yes for all and the 600EUR, can you do that!? We will be very happy if you can.”the agent said

So I am on the VDB list again. But they have trouble to put me into the system because it wont allow passenger to do that twice. But the manager said it’s just the system problem and i can technically do that again. So They offloaded my luggage and put me in stand by.

I waited aside until all people get on board, and all of a sudden the agent wave me to come to the gate with a smile and holding my ticket to help me scan it at the gate entrance.
“Mr. ___, our flight isn't overbook today but thanks for you volunteering. Welcome on board. " she said
"So is it Economy or Premium Economy now....?" (she still holding the ticket)I said
"Welcome to the Business Class" She said
I gave her a hug and say thanks for the arrangement.

This is the only VDB experience in my life. Although I am doing this voluntarily. The LH staff are very friendly and helpful in all the aspects. ^ thumbs-up
