Rep asked the reason, I told him I thought the Citicard was a better fit for me, but I'd keep this card if there was anything that could be done about the annual fee. Same thing happened to me just now. Although I didn't get a chance to say anything about Citi. I specifically said I wanted to see if there were any offers on the account before I closed...as he seemed anxious just to close it. He was going to transfer me to a specialist. Then he came back and said he had waived the fee AND closed the account. I said I wanted it kept open and asked what happened to the specialist. He claimed that he talked with the specialist and they couldn't waive it on their end. He had to do it and only if the account was closed. I guess I will HUCA another time.
