Fair point. I didn't know that. I don't think I have ever used the travel insurance perks of any of my cards. I will be mindful of this in the future.
Actually, depending on the specific Amex card, it's okay to combine with Amex's own Membership Reward but nothing else. IMO the CIBC/TD Aerogold 75% threshold is more reasonable to allow one to use any credit leftover from a previously cancelled flight or gift cards.
