unable to check in online

trying to OLCI for our upcoming EY flight to AUH but got the message 'we have found your reservation but are unable to check you in online.'

please, please, please tell me this means we have a shot at our bid-for upgrade clearing!

we placed a reasonably generous bid, but last time i checked only one seat showed open on the expert flyer seat map (i read somewhere here that those aren't actually accurate for EY). any data points?

EtihadHelp, no need for you to chime in here with a request for my PNR. this is the kind of thing i need anecdotal assistance with.

meh--never mind, i'll answer my own question, at least partly. just got an email from etihad saying they were unable to upgrade me...but i still can't check in online. here's hoping something lucky happens at the airport.
