IME, AC is generally not needed in September, but I can see it as a plus if you need exactly 68 degrees to sleep.

I would advise on a hotel because a) though basic rooms will be small, most hotels have the two twin offer available and b) air BNB is still a bit up in the air in Paris and I've seen reports of a few last minute cancellations which would put a large damper in seeking accommodations.
