Even as someone who is a long-term resident in Chile, I'm sticking to AAdvantage (after trying LANPass out for two years at Premium Silver level). Good points made above, but the one kicker for me is that AA actually tries to provide good service on the ground. LAN couldn't care less (in Chile and in MIA, from what I've seen. I've heard LIM is a different world in terms of service). LAN is great until IRROPS.
