Am staying at the hotel now and it couldn't be better. I used a DSU to upgrade to an Ocean View Townhouse. We were given room 502 which has a spectacular and pretty much unobstructed view (one tree blocks a small portion of our view to the south). The room is updated and spotlessly clean. We like the two bathrooms (one up and the other off the bedroom downstairs). Binoculars are provided which we have used to watch the whales, although many are so close in that binoculars aren't needed.
For room location, I would highly recommend those in the building with rooms 501-508 for the best views, with 509-513 a second as they have the roofs of buildings below them that limit the view slightly. I don't know if all of these rooms are the townhouses. Rooms 519-546 appear to be standard rooms and will have filtered views through trees and are right alongside the road up to the main lodge.
We had a terrific, but expensive, dinner at the Pacific Edge Restaurant at the hotel. I highly recommend the short rib. Again, great views from the restaurant as we watched whales passing by.
The Diamond Breakfast was an entree and beverage and the entrees were varied and delicious. It was warm enough even at 8:30 this morning to sit out on the deck at the California Restaurant. Orange juice lovers beware - no free refills.
We can't wait to come back again next year.
