Sorry to hijack this thread, but I will be doing Heraklion (HER) to LGW in a little over two weeks time (Thursday Aug 27). I have heard similar things about that that airport too (long lines, not much to do in the terminal). Anyone have any recent anecdotes? I will check departures to see if any charter flights leave mid afternoon. Many thanks!
Fairly similar - there is a bit of a pattern to all the Greek regional airports. Not too bad if you can avoid the big charters, but there isn't much to the airport. There are however 2 lounges at Kazantzakis International, one airside (Europa lounge) and one landside (Filoxenia) but neither are believed to be open to BA passengers, both are Priority Pass however. Thursday would normally be OK, but a lot of school holidays will be ending that time so that won't help matters. I'd again turn up 90 minutes before departure, less if HBO.
