People's Express did this, too: EWR-SFO-SJC on a 747. The fares to SJC were invariably 10-20% cheaper, and since People's express only sold one-way tickets (that you would buy ON the plane EN ROUTE!!!) there was no penalty if you just hopped off in SFO. Once, I actually took the SJC portion (since my at-the-time) girlfriend who was attending UC Davis and I were meeting in Monterey. It added a solid 3 hours to the trip, including turnaround at SFO, taxi, take off, circuitous routing, landing, etc.
The bus has got to be faster than that!!!
