Thanks all. We ended up changing our trip to head to MID and spend a week in the Yucatan. In this case AM is the only option, and it was again available at 60K miles. Not a terrible deal for first, though I hear very mixed things about AM.
AM is fine, no more or less issues you would have with DL. You can get a good or bad crew, good or mediocre food, etc., just like on DL. Connecting in MEX (AM to AM flights) is fairly easy, and the level of service in the MEX lounges is much better than in DL SCs.
