Angkor Village Hotel,Siem Reap,Cambodia
After a short 1 hour flight from Danang we found ourselves at Siem Reap International Airport in Cambodia.
Lines at the visa on arrival counter were insane but thankfully we were able to skip them since I applied for ours online , and had the e-visas printed and stapled in our passports. If going to Cambodia do yourself a favor and get it ahead of time.
There are plenty of cab options outside but we wanted to take a tuc-tuc to the city.Drivers are not allowed to bring them to the airport pickup area so you have to walk about 200 m to the main road,no problem. The reason we wanted a tuc-tuc wasn’t only that it’s way more fun than a regular cab but I was hoping that I’m going to be able to arrange a driver for the following days.He did offer his services at the end of the journey:An Angkor sunset the 1st day and a day tour around the temples on the 2nd.If I remember correctly the price was $20 which I didn’t negotiate.I knew you can get it for a few bucks cheaper but he was an extremely nice guy and I was just happy I sorted out things right there the first night.
We arrived around 7pm to the center of the city, where our hotel was located. We were sat down in the lobby and were welcomed with a couple of honey-lemon iced teas while they processed our check-in.
The lobby itself was completely open which awesome if you like both humidity and being eaten by mosquitos.
Our room was on the second floor overlooking the lake in the middle in the property. It was really dark when I got there but here’s a picture from the next morning so you see how our view was.As you notice the restaurant was on the center island. We only had breakfast there(it was included in our rate) and left the property for other meals.
The room was good sized and I loved the traditional furnishing!
There was a corner seating area with two chairs and a coffee table. It had floor to ceiling windows so it would have been great for sitting there in the afternoon if you wanted to escape the heat and relax…which brings me to my only problem at the hotel. No entertainment in the rooms! There was no TV but more importantly no wifi in the room,it was only available in the lobby or in the business center right next to it.
As usual to Asian properties a couple of fruits were left behind as welcome goodies.
The bathroom was located right next to the entrance and it was quite big. With all the colors and the water dripping down the windows(because of the humidity)I felt I’m somewhere in a jungle.Boy I can’t even imagine how this place must be during summer months.

As for the grounds it had that “forest-y” feel throughout the whole hotel. The pool was located in the back of the property. There wan’t separate bar there but if you needed something there was a phone so you could call the lobby bar for both food and drink orders.I had a chicken club sandwich one of the days which was delicious.
And since there was no TV in the rooms there was a separate “TV room” right off the lobby. I’m not a tv addict (I don’t even have cable at home) but would have preferred to watch news right off my bed, small inconvenience but no big deal.
Right next to it you found the Spa.As you see it was very reasonably priced…
