What purpose does it serve?
On a recent red-eye flight from LAS to EWR we didn't have the movie listed in the Inflight Magazine. As the lead, I decided to show another movie we did have.
As the customers were boarding some asked what the movie would be. I told them it would be "Mystery Men", to which they responded, "Whose in it and what is it about?", one other customer said, "Is it a family type movie?" -all movies shown on our main screen are rated with a PG-13, PG, or G. I told them I didn't know, but we would show a preview of it before showing it.
After takeoff we showed the preview and began renting out the headsets, one of the customers who had asked us about the film when boarding said, "That looks awful" (needless to say she didn't rent a headset).
After arriving in EWR 4.5 hours later at 7:00 a.m. and as the plane was emptying its travelers, the same woman came up to me and rather than saying, "Thanks or this flight stunk", she said, "That was the worst movie I've ever seen". I was stunned, she was asleep during the showing and she didn't rent a headset. What makes people say such unusual comments? Does the movie really make or break the flight?
