Ads and articles used to have more words. The ad that led to the Times v. Sullivan case in 1964 (a landmark first-amendment ruling) was all-text.

Nowadays you've got Twitter (which many in the GOP still struggle with, as evidenced by multi-part tweets after the recent SCOTUS decisions).

There's also Instagram, where Hillary supporter Kim Kardashian just celebrated her 42 millionth follower
