First class (different flights) or Business class (together) redemption on CX
Hello all: My 15-year old son and I are flying from HKG-LAX on Alaska miles. I can book two CX first class seats on two different flights on the same day (they are 3.5 hours apart) or two CX business class seats on the same flight. (CX only releases 1 F seat per flight in advance.)
My hope, of course, is that a first class seat will open up on either his or my flight so we'll be able to fly together--and I thought by booking on two flights we double our chances. But the worst case scenario is that we fly apart and meet up in LA for our connecting flight.
Any thoughts about whether this is a sound strategy or whether I will get some sort of "Worst Dad of the Year" award? Would you risk sending your kid on a 7000 mile flight by himself?
