I don't think the OP deserves a comp stay, just a relocation to another SPG property at the same rate.

Perhaps SPG throws in a room upgrade, or maybe SPG comps a meal, due to the lack of communication and added travel related stress.
Whilst construction may take longer than expected there was no need to take reservations u til confidence in the schedule was high enough to compensate those inconvenienced by a delayed opening.
