I don't agree. All hotels set "target" opening dates and the majority move. Which is why people should have a back up.
I don't think the OP deserves a comp stay, just a relocation to another SPG property at the same rate.
Perhaps SPG throws in a room upgrade, or maybe SPG comps a meal, due to the lack of communication and added travel related stress.
