Yes, it can happen due to positioning. I was on a 787 in BF from SFO-IAH last weekend. The plane had arrived at SFO from CTO. The FAs said from IAH it was to go to LOS.
It was a great ride, though my driver was a bit perplexed that he needed to drop me off at International Departures.
