With how often my Thursday evening flights are oversold, I'd take that hedge.
A couple of years ago, I was flying out of PIT, and the flight was overbooked. I was the first to vol. I left the gate for a while, and wandered back. The GA (who I know well) told me that a woman had 2 seats booked, so he VDB'd her 2nd seat. I was a little peeved, but, what are you gonna do! Shortly thereafter, they used my seat, too!

I never did find out why the other pax had 2 seats booked on the same flight!
