Better still, buy a multi-brand remote control, with MENU and PROG buttons. Often, it will allow you to do all sorts of neat things -- like access channels that have been otherwise locked out. (I'm not talking PayTV here, but rather when cable TV providers add new channels, and the hotel doesn't realize that they should run the Auto Program feature again. The hotel is, after all, paying for all those extra channels, so why not provide them.) Volume limits can also be overridden, but I advise discretion here, for obvious reasons. But sometimes, certain channels seem to have a much lower average volume than others.

Best $20 I ever spent on the road.
