efax (efax.com) and jfax (jfax.com) both have services where they assign you a phone number and your incoming faxes are converted to e-mail. E-fax is free, but you get ads, and your phone number can be basically anywhere. J-fax has a monthly free, but there are no ads, and the phone number will be in the area of your choice. In both cases, if you want this to be transparent to the senders, then you would have to have call forwarding, and forward your normal fax number to the e-fax or j-fax number.
