If time and/or money is tight, the Nairobi National park is a great way to get a quick safari fix. It is on the edge of the city and you will be able to get a guide to collect you from your hotel and drive you around there for a day for $100 or so. The park is small compared to others, but has excellent game viewing (pretty much everything except elephants) and doesn't feel small when you are in it. Most vistas are of the African bush, but in places you can see the skyscrapers of Nairobi in the background and wild animals in the foreground. I think that is rather nice.
