Agree totally. First of all, it takes WAY too long to get even one free rental day. Secondly, if you get a special discount coupon it comes with so many gimmicks and gotchas (and is usually just a discount off of the full price), that it's cheaper to just shop around with the usual assortment of codes. And thirdly -- unlike a hotel, no car rental company has ever learned my preferences. I only want two things: a relatively low mileage car that hasn't been smoked in. No matter how often I rent from the same location, same company, with the same people behind the counter, it's like we never met. The car rental industry has zero concept of customer service -- they just want to turn cars around as fast as possible.
