Unfortunately the IR rolling stock from Geneva to Brig is old and there is no catering at all on the line. That's not to say it's uncomfortable and the scenery is indeed more interesting. The IC rolling stock from Basel will be more modern and comfortable, but you will spend quite a lot of time in tunnels. I believe there is catering on that route. No reservation required on trains in Switzerland (except for tourist trains).
