Also, I have contempt for the practice of using carry-on luggage. People do what their personal motivations dictate or what they see other people doing. It is what people do, and I cannot blame them for being what they are.
As for the catching a meeting, I believe we choose our own itineraries and schedule things. If a 20 minute wait for luggage makes one miss a meeting, I could conclude it was poorly scheduled. Also, for every missed flight, or last minute switch allowed by having carry-on, there are probably multiple contrary times when a plane pushes back late because carry-on bags need to be gate checked, or boarding is a mess looking for space in overhead bins.
The very fact that, since AC has cracked down on carry-on has significantly improved OTP would suggest that carry-on is an issue for keeping schedules on time.
Regardless, I know no one here agrees with me.
Well, the only thing I disagree with you about on this post is that no one agrees with you.
I couldn't agree more. My experience with checked baggage has been very positive over the course of 2015. I am happy to check everything but my briefcase and I am not looking back. Flying is *way* less stressful now. And as an added bonus, I can bring a flask of my favorite small batch whiskey for enjoying in the evenings. I know there are corner cases for not checking (photographers, etc.) but I am very happy to check.
