15% is only on SQ so you would need to pay the full price (based on the Star Alliance chart) if redeeming through SQ. You could also compare how transferring MR points to NH or to AC compares in terms of cost in miles.
In terms of product, you can search for trip reports on FT or on blogs ... NH F is definitely not as "exciting" as Suites but the service and food are still supposed to be very good.
