I am only in favour of fees, in so much as its the only way, or at the least the most immediate and effective way, to modify traveller behaviour. As you stated, checked bag fees caused this change in behaviour so it works. I only suggested that a carry-on fee be considered, simply because the carry-on issue is getting out of hand, and we can no longer ban carry-on. That ship has, unfortunately sailed. Please refrain from harping on that argument, as it is not part of my argument. Full disclosure, I preferred it back in the day when tickets were 25%-50% relatively more expensive, but there was no nickel and dime-ing on everything. But consumers seem to have lost the ability to count, so we're stuck with all the extras.

While we are on the subject of baggage fees, I'd like to point out that they are are not an AC creation. You can sight AC's greed but you should expand that argument to airline's in general. (Judging by the number of states that will legalize and tax the sale of marijuana over the next few years, governments are also greedy, but I digress) They are a creation of the LCCs from the mid 2000s. The first legacy carrier appears to be AA in 2008. (http://www.farecompare.com/travel-ad...ags-history/#/) and almost every other airline followed suit. Now, asking an airline to go back an ancillary fees is also a thing of the past. Things will only get worse. But hey... people are happy to buy a $9 airline ticket, so that's the world we live in.

Yes, baggage fees are a major part of the cause. I'm not arguing they are not. I've never argued they were not. I just wish there was a solution for eliminating, or at the very least, considerably reducing the use of carry-on rollers. If anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears. But I know this is not a popular opinion around here, so I won't hold my breath.
How about:

- removing the baggage fee? Or reducing it to reflect the actual cost of handling a suitcase, given that the infrastructure is already paid for by pax?
- improving baggage delivery times? Or wait until the delivery time problem has been resolved before implementing the fee?

The former would reduce the carry on issue significantly with one announcement and no fee. You may never argue in favour of it, but you never argue against it either. It's the source of the problem, it seems, but it apparently has no role to play on the solution as far as you're concerned.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I often check in my carry on 20" suitcase for any AC flight not terminating in Canada. I'm sure you can figure out why.
