So apparently the biggest typhoon of the year is on its way to Asia http://www.usatoday.com/story/weathe...hina/31110629/ and just my luck, I've booked a Hong Kong -> Taipei > Los Angeles flight for the exact time it's supposed to land, when I fly Friday afternoon (August 7).

I booked through cheaptickets.hk, so now I'm wondering if there is anything I can do preemptively to avoid getting stuck either in HK or Taipei? It says cancellations and exchanges have to be started four days in advance, so that's too late. My American Express travel insurance only covers delayed flights.

Any advice? I need to get back to LA by Saturday for a wedding I'm participating in!!
