I can also assure you that we are doing what we can to ease the pain. We can’t change the weather, of course, but we have introduced initiatives such as the pre-emptive cancellation of flights to try and make the impact less severe.
The ATC issues in the Mainland have been more severe of late. From 1 May to 16 June, there were 10 days of flow controls that led to more than 230 flights being delayed to and from Eastern and Northern China. The knock-on effect across the operation has been considerable.
Such a situation is not sustainable in the long term, especially for our colleagues who deal with this on a day-to-day basis, so we are now in the process of reassessing our schedules to Shanghai, particularly for Dragonair, which will take some of the strain out of the operation. We are also looking at other measures that will help to ease the pressure in the long term.
