While I was living on the Mainland, there usually was no conflict between flyertalk and the Great Firewall. When flyertalk was blocked, everything was blocked anyway.

Make sure that if you are in China, your VPN actively keeps making adjustments so that any tweaks that is made by the Firewall can be thwarted.
