I would suggest sleeping as much as possible on all westbound flights whenver you can - i.e. do not try "not to" sleep on LHR - LAX: sleep if you can / feel tired.

Haiwaii is 10 hours time difference to the UK so trying to stay awake and cope with just 2-3 hours on the last flight will be painful / difficult and not fun once you land. that flight is also not as comfortable as the LHR - LAX. So I think that despite your "dont like sleeping daytime", I would put the bed down and try for at least 2-3 hours on the LHR LAX flight after the meal on a flat bed. Sleep longer if you can (I dont think there's any risk of you sleeping 8 hours and thus arriving not tired in Haiwaii). Similary, sleep as much as you can on the LAX OGG so that you don't arrive too zombied.

or do LHR DFW OGG as pointed out to have an angled bed on the 763 from DFW to OGG.

Dreading it really...but wondered if there was a trick to all this?

cheers
as others have said, my usual tactic is to try to sleep as much as possible on the overnighter into PHX, little (if at all) on the PHX - PHL and then be tired for the TATL.
