Just took one of these volunteer offers on Friday due to an overbook. It was a horrible situation where they thought they overbooked by 2. Announced over the system that they would be compensating $800, free hotel, free meal, and a flight the next morning.
They didn't have a list but just openly broadcasted. Since I wasn't in a rush, I volunteered. I had one checked luggage, one carton, and one personal. They said they were mostly looking for passengers without luggage first, so I had to standby and I also had to standby to see if there were any no shows. Turns out, I was the last person to board and I was unable to volunteer.
I got on the plane, my carry on didn't fit so they checked it free and I sat down. Out of no where they asked if I still wanted to volunteer and I said sure. There was a AC pilot waiting at the door and he needed to get on. In the end, my checked carry on was somehow sent to YVR, while my checked luggage prior was taken off and was at YYC.
I got the $800 voucher, 15$ dinner meal (they should give more for this IMO, nothing is that cheap), 2 x $10 meal vouchers at the airport or hotel (which I could combine with the $15) for breakfast, and a flight the next morning. I even asked if I could get bumped to J and they said no
I don't think I've heard a lot of $800 offers, usually it's $400 and I'm curious to know how they determine this... I overheard the YYC to YUL was only offering $400...Also the YYC delta was disgusting. Eugh.
