Not really...

With only 6 PE seats assigned as NZ$20 paid preferred seat upgrade, a lot of people would've been smart to grab those upon booking.

FYI 16 PE seats are reserved as Frequent Flyer (Elite/Gold/Koru), which leaves 22 seats "blocked".

Off the top of my memory the first 4: 23 D,E,J,K are blocked until check-in as that's where the bassinets are located (which opens up at T-48h for FF selection, could be wrong), while the rear of the PE cabin is/was reserved for those booked in Works Deluxe.

You could try your luck at check-in to see if you can grab those blocked off for airport control/assignment, but almost certain you will have no luck getting those unless you're a top tier Elite member.

A quick check between now and October for a mid-week booking, I see on several dates there are still the odd 1 or 2 "preferred seats" in PE open. They are there... just far and few in-between.
