Rimowa Salsa Deluxe Hybrid Small Business Trolley
I've been looking for a wheeled briefcase that will work with my "one bag plus" approach to travel. I use a Tom Bihn Aeronaut for my clothing and toiletries, but want a small(ish) rolling briefcase for my computer, electronics and the stuff that would normally be in a purse, that I can take to meetings when on business trips. In this system (found here on FT, of course!), the Aeronaut goes on top of the rolling briefcase for long walks, and when I get to the gate, the Aeronaut goes on my back, I pick up the briefcase and stroll onto the plane, unmolested by gate agents. On board, the Aeronaut goes in the overhead bin and the briefcase can fit under the seat in front of me if needed. I tried this approach recently on a trip to London and it worked well, except that the Baggallini Skyline rolling briefcase I used wasn't really sturdy enough and needed an easily accessible front pocket. (I was in business class on United's Dreamliner, so the briefcase went overhead with the Aeronaut. I did try the Skyline under the seat in front of me in coach on a BA domestic flight, in an aisle seat, and it fit with lots of room to spare.)
Enter my interest in the Rimowa Salsa Deluxe Hybrid Small Business Trolley. This is the one with two wheels, NOT the multiwheel version. It seems to tick the boxes: rolling two wheels (I find spinner wheels take up too much room); hard sided to better hold the weight of a bag on top of it; front pocket for quick access to small/thin items; small(ish) size to increase the odds that it could fit under the seat in front of me, if needed; and... I've wanted a Rimowa but didn't want to abandon my beloved Tom Bihn. It's slightly larger than the Skyline, but not enormously so. I'm not overly worried about weight as I don't typically fly airlines with low weight limits on cabin baggage.
Does anyone have any experience with this briefcase? It seems to be a bit of a "stealth" member of the Rimowa family -- I suspect it's being phased out in favor of the multiwheel version, but it still surprised me to find no FT posts about it.
Thanks in advance for your reviews.
