3 weeks ago, I was flying HSV-ATL-SEA-FAI. I applied an RUC right after booking and HSV-ATL and SEA-FAI were available for RUC upgrades. ATL-SEA was waitlisted and I expected it would go to the gate.

Instead, it cleared about 28 hours before ATL-SEA departed. A real gift, and I was grateful. ^

When I applied the certificate, the agent recommended that I remove the complimentary upgrade request as it could cause a conflict with the RUC upgrade request. This was 10 days out, but at that time there wasn't any complimentary upgrade inventory either. So I asked the agent to do as he suggested.

Moral of the story, you just never know when upgrade inventory will open.
