Funny, I completely forgot about my most recent trip to TXL earlier this year . . . .

Flying ORD/SLC/CDG/TXL with about 9ish hours in Paris for some shopping . . . .

I checked a bag at ORD all the way thru to TXL. It didn't show up at baggage claim. They delivered it to my apt 2.5 days later . . . but . . . .

The bag I checked at CDG with all of my shopping from a half day in Paris - DID turn up!

I think the longer a bag has to sit the higher likelihood it gets lost. Especially if overnight, its going to get tucked in a corner to ensure its not in the way of the bags that need to go next. Then something gets put in front of the bag, or it gets tipped over or whatever and *poof* your bag is now missing.

I think it's just general human nature, out of sight out of mind until you land and go to the counter asking where you bag is.
