On a connection (which is how I read this) you should have no problems through checking to HNL (though DL would allow you to reclaim if you ask).

On the island leg, you are very likely out of luck. Hawaiian was very vocal with their reaction to the DOT baggage fee rules rules, and have used this an excuse to not accept such on separate tickets (and then of course charge you if need be).
