Prior to the UA/CO merger, I used to receive regular promotional emails from UA. Most of it was spam (fare sales I didn't care about). But some involved promotions I was actually interested in. Some even got me extra EQM. So I actually used to look at those emails to find promotions to register for.

After the UA/CO merger, I stopped receiving any promotional mails from united. I assumed CO was just a less spammy company, and that the price I paid for a tidier inbox was fewer promotions. However, I've seen multiple mentions on the list of targeted promotions and the like. So finally I concluded this complete marketing silence may be specific to me.

The strange thing is that I receive all my flight confirmations, upgrade notifications, flight changes, receipts, etc. When something goes wrong I get an email inviting me to register for customer appreciation. After each flight I get a request to rate the flight (which I usually ignore). I get boarding passes. Everything flight-related seems to be fine.

That said, I don't receive my monthly mileage plus statement (which I signed up for). And I don't receive anything else that's not related to specific itineraries I've already booked. On the web site, I've been signed up for absolutely everything, including even MileagePlus partner (figuring this was a complete invitation to spam me). But no, not a single promotional email from united in well over two years.

I should also say that I am 100% positive that these emails are not ending up in my spam folder. I use a dedicated email address only for united, and have completely disable all spam filtering. Because the email address hasn't "leaked", I get zero spam, so there's also no chance I'm missing something from United between other mails. Moreover, my IT manager even combed through 18 months of mail logs to send me a list of not only every email I received, but every attempt (successful or not) of anyone to send a message to my dedicated united account. The result is zilch. Not a single promotional email or even failed attempt to send me mail. Nor any attempts to send me monthly mileage plus statements.

Has anyone else seen anything like this? I worry that I'm missing out on some promotions I'd actually want. Thanks.
