Me too - I think this really is dispicable. BA is in a race to the bottom and seem to think the long term future is to operate as a LCC. I disagree. One thing is for sure - you can't run a full service airline and pay peanuts because you will end up with monkeys who can't do the job. The irony is that crew would probably be paid more at easyjet after their commission.

Whoever came up with this must be an accountant and not a very good one. What cost are they putting on low morale / lack of goodwill and compensation for service recovery?

Someone in BA is fixated on Pursers. I bet they have never seen what Pursers actually do. There's a reason why airlines like Qatar and Emirates have a Purser-equivalent role. A single senior crew member role doesn't work on multi cabin aircraft because the sccm is in an impossible position and can't be everywhere. MF would work better if there was also a proper Purser role with experienced crew leading each cabin.

I feel very sorry for BA Gatwick crew. They have some very good crew and they are humans and deserve to be treated better. You can't expect your employees to respect you if you fail to respect them.

BA's Gatwick crew have worked with BA to achieve efficiencies - 35 minute turnarounds are achieved, 3 crew on a 737-400 for years when it really needs 4; and so on.

We seem to be in a new era of management these days that knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.
