The outbound goes through Amsterdam and Mexico, but the inbound goes through Amsterdam only…
It's likely MEX with two different airlines is not an acceptable transit point for IAH to have it charged as single itinerary and that they count the IAH-mex as separate although 12.5k would be Y charge which is weird too.
