KrisFlyer Gold - switch loyalties again?
Hello,
I was United Gold for the last few years due to my frequent travel on United and Singapore Airlines. I really liked it - free upgrades to premium economy and also free standby for Business class on domestic were awesome perks.
My usual yearly travel pattern is :
1) ~10,000-15,000 miles per year on Domestic USA routes
2) ~40,000-50,000 miles per year on International from SFO to India
Given the MileagePlus program change in 2015, its impossible for me to qualify for Gold now so I moved my loyalties to Krisflyer. My home airports are SFO/SJC.
The main problem I am having with Krisflyer is their bad online experience. I usually book my tickets in flexible fares so that I can change my itinerary if needed. Singaporeair.com sucks real bad at this experience. After one change or two change, itineraries begin to get 'blocked' and you cannot make online changes. You have to wait for long to get to a customer service associate and reason with them to cancel the $50 service fee since the only reason you have had to call is that the change was not allowed online! Even if they agree to waive this, the fares they quote on the phone is usually more than what is available online so its a total mess.
The worst part is reward redemption on the USA-India route, The service fee and taxes on the reward redemption is so high, it makes the program useless for trans-pacific flights and my travel pattern just doesnt fit well like you can see.
I am thinking of switching loyalties again but don't know whom I should jump to now? Will be good if its a star alliance member since I am already travelling on Singapore more than twice in the coming year.
Any suggestions/ thoughts will be appreciated.
