I'm sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with your comments on restaurants in Italy. Let me start off by saying we usually try to visit non-touristy, local restaurants in small to medium size towns and villages. We have eaten in many, many Italian restaurants over the years and have NEVER felt ripped off. In fact, sssuming you don't go to "touristy" places, you usually get a lot of food for your money. Italy has some of the best food in the world and you are never, ever "rushed" to finish a meal. The Italians are a gracious and friendly people with a rich history and culture. The scenery is quite varied, and is among the most beautiful that you will find anywhere in the world. Do give Italy another chance.

Anyone going to Italy should just be prepared to be ripped off in a restaurant. After my first bad experience, I adopted the atitude that you should assume that anything on the table could end up costing extra. In the US, we assume that bread on the table is complimentary, not in Italy. If you can, ask for clarification of the charges for anything you consume.</font>
