Points for stay paid by certificate due to service recovery?
I am a Hilton Diamond member. This past winter my wife and I stayed at a Hilton resort property and had some severe service issues. As a result, we were issued 2 certificates, each good for one night at any Hilton property.
I used one in May and had no problems. Made my stay, presented the certificate at checkout and later received credit for my stay and all the points I was due.
I used the second one this past weekend. I mentioned to the front desk on checking in that I had the certificate and would be using it on checkout. They insisted that I give them the certificate immediately, which I reluctantly did.
When I checked out they had charged the credit card I had on file for the full amount. I reminded the clerk that I had a certificate and that I had already turned it over to them. They searched around for a while and then finally told me they lost it. They said when they found it they would take care of the charge on my card. (Naturally there were many people in line to check out at this time.) I insisted that I wasn't going to leave until my bill was taken care of. Finally the clerk typed away at his computer and zeroed everything out from my account and credit card.
Today, I looked at my account and I was given no credit for the night and not points for the stay! I called the Diamond Desk to plead my case, but even after speaking with a supervisor they won't give me any points for the stay. They claim that the hotel I stayed at in May made an error and I shouldn't have gotten those points either.
Am I in the wrong here? If not, anyone have any ideas about how to get my points?
