Update on my side: I was finally able to select seats (or better said, QR selected them for me) using their "http://support.qatarairways.com/requests" site. They answered pretty fast, and with great customer care. I was actually very surprised.
Have the exact same problem (also booked EZE-NRT through smiles). I'm trying to contact QR through twitter and will try to use your link otherwise. I was really hoping this had to do with a potential change to A359
