Do not let either hotel or IHG Helpdesk try to help as they have to first cancel (not modify) booking then rebook .... And having cancelled it is unlikely room award will be given back to rebook. And in any case would come back at 20k so save you nothing but risk you having to pay £300
You can sometimes modify your booking online yourself which will release the extra nights worth of points but as room is us$480/night and 20k points are $140 and you want just $70 points back the risk us not worth it.
Also be ware if hotel had minimum booking of 2nights as if you modify to 1day hotel in theory has right to cancel the remaining night.
